About the Belgrade Lakes Region of Maine
Our quaint town of Vienna, Maine is in an area of dozens of lakes and has all
the benefits of a friendly small town, yet we are only 30 minutes by car from Farmington, the state capital of Augusta, and Waterville – all major recreational and college towns.
Vienna is next to Belgrade Lakes, a tourist town with a storied past (Elizabeth Arden, 1920s Great Gatsby era). Vienna is minutes to their golf
course and dozens of lakes (all with public access). Other nearby towns include
Farmington, Hallowell and Waterville. The coast is not too far either.
So if you need a break from the solitude and lake fun, take a 15-minute drive to Belgrade
Lakes village and shoot a round of golf on their world-class golf course, or shop for some Maine-made products, or go boating at the marina.
Other Golf Courses can be found via this local Google search.
Lakes, Lakes, Lakes!
Within 5 miles of the house are dozens of lakes
(some with islands), all perfect for fishing, boating,
and camping. There's Parker Pond, Black Pond, Flying
Pond, Messalonski, Echo Lake, etc.
There are nearby tennis courts at the high school,
hiking trails, scenic views and plenty of lakes
for power boating or jet skiing. Many lakes have
islands for picnics or camping. We can help you
plan a fun time for your group.
Antiquing, Art
There are a few antique shops around, and plenty
of gift shops featuring Maine products. Come explore!
Wildlife
Be sure to visit the local D.E.W. Animal Kingdom
to see the tigers, camels, lions and bears (literally!). Say
hello to Bob and Julie Minor for us.
There are deer, loons, owls, hawks, raccoons, beavers, fish and storks in abundance in our forested area of Vienna. Lots of photo opportunities!
Shopping & Groceries
In Augusta you will find a shopper's paradise
– there are stores like Gap, Linens 'n Things,
Kohls, Staples, Circuit City, Home Depot, Lowe's, Pier
1, Walmart, Old Navy, EMS, Barnes and Noble, etc.
Restaurants like Long Horn Steakhouse,
Panera Breads, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, and the 99, among others. (The town next door,
Hallowell, has more upscale places, if that's desired). View a larger list of dining options near Black Pond.
Winter Vacations
In the winter months, the area is perfect for snowmobiling,
cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing,
holiday reunions, etc.
